California Auto Museum in Sacramento has initiated an exhibit of German marques, over the next several months. BMW is the featured marque from November 28 through January 23 and we've organized a tour and drive to take it all in.

The California Automobile Museum near Old Town in Sacramento has been presenting an extended exhibit of the current primary German marques, consisting of Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, and Volkswagen. The exhibit, called Wundercars, runs from October through May, and tells the story of the German automobile industry and German cars in America. The BMW portion of the presentation is currently underway through January 21st, and features a 1929 Dixi, 1939 327/28 pillarless coupe, 328, Isetta, 2002 Turbo, 1800 TI/SA, 1969 2002 sunroof coupe, 635CSi, E30 M3, and a Z4 prepped for SCCA competition. Besides these cars, the museum contains dozens of other historic cars, ranging from the brass era through the 1970's, so the visit is well worthwhile if you've never been there before.

We'll meet at 9am in the parking lot at Country Waffles (6049 Northfront Rd., Livermore), which is near Highway 580 and Vasco Rd. After signing the waiver and a brief driver's meeting at 9:15am, we'll leave promptly at 9:30am. We'll head north on Vasco Rd. and eventually take highway 160, which is a levee road that runs adjacent to the Sacramento River. Near Walnut Grove, we'll take Twin Cities Rd. and catch Highway 5 going north to our destination at Old Town in Sacramento. Upon our arrival around 11:30, we'll have brunch at the well-regarded Rio City Cafe, where entrees range from about $10 - $15.

About 1pm, we'll drive the short distance to the museum, where we may be able to arrange for a docent-led tour. Admission is $8.
